The former Vice President in the previous All People’s Congress (APC) regime, Chief Alhaji Abu Bakarr Sam Sumana, has donated Le100 million to the current 21 man Interim Transitional Governance Committee of the APC as part of his assistance to the party’s current campaign for the upcoming bye elections in several parts of the country scheduled to take place on 25 June this year.
Chief Alhaji Sam Sumana’s donation came following a pledge he made to the party at the general meeting organized by the 21 man committee at the party’s headquarters at Old Railway Line, Brookfield’s.
During that meeting, members of the party who want to contest as aspirants for the flagbearer position were asked to make donations to help the party’s team meet the financial demands of the bye elections campaign. It was at that time the former Vice President, who is also rumored to be an aspirant for the said position, made a pledge of Le100 million.
Other aspirants for the APC flagbearer position also made pledges but most of them are yet to be fulfilled.
Sources within the APC 21 man committee have confirmed to this press that the former VP was the first person to give his donation to the party and the entire membership appreciated the timing of the donation.
According to the Secretary General of the 21 man committee, Hon Abdul Kargbo, the party has officially launched its campaign for the bye elections, especially the parliamentary bye election in Constituency 056 where both the APC and the ruling SLPP will be fighting to clinch that seat to get a lead in the number of seats in Parliament.
