As business close to help prevent transmission of COVID 19, financial concerns and job losses are one of the first human impacts of this virus. Not knowing how this pandemic will play out also affect our economic, physical and mental well-being; Despite this fear, businesses and communities in many regions have shown a more altruistic response in the face of crisis – actions which could help countries fight against and defeat COVID 19.
Notwithstanding these efforts, trend of the pandemic is very worrisome and combating its spread is therefore an utmost priority to all citizens of the world. As I type, there are 1,777,515 confirmed cases, 404,236 recovered cases and 108,862 deaths of COVID 19 cases in the world. There are 12,000 confirmed cases and 608 deaths in Africa. Sierra Leone can account for about 10 confirmed cases and approximately 400 suspected cases (in quarantine homes). In the midst of this devastating episode in the world’s newest history, come this year’s Easter celebration!!
Many Christians celebrate Easter Sunday as the day of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, which is written in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. In every year’s Easter celebration, save for this one (2020) and those I cannot account for, some remember walking up the sidewalk to church on Easter morning with their family. Mom wore a hat dad was in a suit, and the children had on their most beautiful spring clothes. Others remember searching for eggs and candy, then tearing into an Easter basket brimming with treats. Christians give thanks for the resurrection of Christ, while others look forward to the daffodils and crocus to appear. Whatever your memories, Easter is a time of renewal and awakening.
My fellow Comrades and Reformers, especially those of you who are Christians, today, the leadership of NRM cannot send you gifts, we cannot visit your homes all due to this unspeakable pandemic but we wholeheartedly join you in gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice and the joyful renewal it brings to all God’s children this Easter season. May this Easter Sunday inspire you to new hope, happiness, prosperity and abundance, all received through God’s divine grace. May God bless us and may God protect our families from COVID 19.
Brothers and sisters, in the reformation struggle, we are mindful of the challenges we are confronted by but we wish to use this golden opportunity to reaffirm our commitment and collective resolve to push for reformation in our beloved APC and to an extension our country Sierra Leone. We wish to assure you that nothing will sway us, no amount of pressure will make us succumb to any distraction and we shall all match to victory in unison (leaving no one behind)!!!
