The National Revenue Authority has on Monday 27th January, 2020 celebrated International Customs Day on the theme *”Customs Fostering Sustainability For People, Prosperity and the Planet”.

The commemoration is in conjunction with the World Customs Organization (WCO) and other Customs Administrations around the world. The 2020 celebrations will be dedicated to the contribution of Customs towards a sustainable future where social, economic, Health and Environmental needs are at the heart of the many strategic actions for the year 2020.

In her opening remarks, the *Deputy Commissioner General of the NRA Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura* noted that the theme speaks to issues that threaten the very existence of the human race with so much potential to jeopardise the potential of future generations from developing. She said the Customs department will seek to prioritize the role of maintaining border control to continually make contributions towards a sustainable and all inclusive future for generations yet to come.

The Guest Speaker of the event, *Prof. Foday M. Jaward* who is the Minister of Environment congratulated the NRA for its wonderful and relentless strides taken to first raise Revenue to support the program of government  and now invading uncharted territories by streamlining issues of the environment into their work. He emphasized  the indispensable roles of Customs Administration towards building a much better and sustainable future for all which is the main goal of the seventeen Sustainable  DevelopmentDevelopment Goals (SDG) which are relevant to the operations of customs.

It is believed that this year’s celebrations will inspire Customs Service Department to rise to the  occasion with full commitment to actively promote “sustainability for people, Prosperity and the plant” in this part of the world.
