The Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Ing Amara Kanneh has said that they will continue to chase out right of way encroachers. He made this statement over the weekend at the Authority’s headquarters at PWD Junction, Kissy, in the East end of Freetown.
According to Director Amara Kanneh, the right of way is a place reserved by the authority so that utility companies and other advertising companies would have access to these places. He maintained that, over the years, people have taken upon themselves to construct permanent structures along the right of way, which he said has posed a serious challenge.
He pointed out that they have over the years written several warning letters to those people that are encroaching on the right of way, but since it takes time to get authority from the security forces to take action, it’s during that period that they quickly go ahead with the construction of their illegal structures.
Ing. Kanneh informed that to ensure that this lawless act is discontinued, the SLRA in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) are engaging now to push for a policy that would give the Authority the power to independently deal with right of way encroachers.
He called on those indulging in the act of encroaching on the right of way to henceforth desist, or they would risk demolition of their properties.
