The Tonkolili District Chairman of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party, Ahmed Saybom Kanu, has described a day dialogue he had with Paramount Chiefs, traditional and local chiefs in the District as an opportunity to romance with his brothers.
On Tuesday, 22nd November 2022, the SLPP District Chairman of Tonkolili met with Paramount Chiefs, Regent Chiefs, and other sub-chiefs from the District’s nineteen chiefdoms at the Riverside Hotel, Makeni road, in Magburaka town.
The significance of the meeting though Chairman Saybom said was to discuss issues bordering on the development of the District, especially the role of the Chiefs at the local level, but he also described the occasion as an opportunity to romance with the Chiefs whom he described as his brothers.
“You are all my brothers and so I’m happy to romance with you. As Paramount Chiefs, the future of Tonkolili District is in your hands,” Saybom Kanu said.
During his address, the SLPP Chairman assured the Chiefs of President Bio’s and the party’s victory in the forthcoming general elections, and called on them to support the President’s agenda for the general benefits of all.
As the party’s District Chairman, he says, he is always ready to support development at Chiefdom level, and urged the Chiefs to do likewise. President Bio, Kanu said, is a God sent and has served the country and the people diligently and with sincerity.
Several Paramount Chiefs present in the meeting made meaningful statements. PC Dr. Masakma Madibie II of Kafe Chiefdom who doubles as the Chairman for Council of Paramount Chiefs in Tonkolili District opined that, as Chiefs, they are always ready, willing and available to support development and government’s policies for a sustainable development.
“Whichever party in power, we as chiefs has a role and responsibility to not only support but also complement government’s efforts to improve the country,” the PC Masakma Madibie said.
Civil Society representatives, the media, and other dignitaries from other works of life were also present. The pouring of libations climaxed the colorful event.
