PUBLIC NOTICE

The Sierra Leone Police would like to inform the general public that on Sunday 26th January, 2020, it responded to a public disorder incident along ECOWAS Street, Wilberforce Street, leading to the offices of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) at Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown.

This incident resulted to several people being injured and vehicles/buildings maliciously damaged at the scene.

The police response team were however able to quell down the riot by separating, subduing and dispersing the rioters.

All those injured in the riot have been issued with Police Medical Request Forms for examinations and treatments at Connaught Hospital.

So far, a total of fifteen suspects have been arrested and they are now helping the Police with the investigation.

Meanwhile, static deployments of personnel are currently being maintained at the vicinity of the SLPP’s Office at Wallace Johnson Street and its environs, so as to forestall a recurrence of what happened.

The Public is therefore informed that an investigation has been launched into this matter with the view to identifying more perpetrators, their motive, and the nature and extent of damages and injuries to persons and vehicles respectively. Any other issues of interest to the Police will form part of the investigation.

The Media and Public Relations Unit wants to assure the general public that it will be fully updated on the outcome of the investigation through its usual press conferences.

Meanwhile, interested persons seeking clarifications on this matter are advised to direct same to the Media and Public Relations Unit, based at Police Headquarters, George Street, Freetown.
