(MFAIC Press Office Freetown: Thursday 13th August, 2020): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to inform the general public that it has received information about some stranded Sierra Leonean nationals in India.
These nationals went to India either for medical treatment or to study in various fields.
The Ministry has brought the situation to the attention of all relevant stakeholders with the view of finding ways to repatriate these nationals safely back home.
The Ministry also engaged the competent Indian authorities to clarify information about possible flight from India to Freetown. So far, the only flight from New Delhi to Freetown via Ghana is scheduled for 22nd August 2020 and cost $1750.00 per Economy ticket.
This information has been sent to the stranded Sierra Leoneans through their representatives – Stevena Bio and Philip Sandy- and through our Embassy in UAE which covers India.
The Ministry encourages these stranded Sierra Leoneans to make use of the only available opportunity at the moment to end their suffering and continued uncertainty.
The Ministry stands ready to provide additional information as required.
