The Sierra Leone Football Association represented by its President Madam Isha Johansen, Vice President Brima Mazola Kamara and General Secretary Christopher Kamara, was today summoned for a meeting with the Parliamentary Sports Committee to deliberate on issues bordering around football in the country.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Sports Committee Hon. Alusine K. Conteh thanked the SLFA President and her Executive Committee for their ”relentless effort to promote Football in the country.” ”Now that congress date has been slated, the Federation should be allowed to work until it’s time for congress.” He added.
Hon. Conteh went on to state that they as a Parliamentary Sports Committee will not permit any” parallel or rebellious body to be formed against SLFA that will disrupt the much needed peace in the game.”
The President of the SLFA in response to questions presented by a cross section of the Sports Oversight Committee in Parliament re-emphasized that ”Government officials and high placed personalities should be mindful of being repeatedly misled with regards to issues pertaining to Football governance and administration.”
Asked about the recent match fixing rulings by FIFA Adjudicatory Committee, Madam Johansen concluded that it is evident, contrary to propaganda put out by certain media, that allegation against Mr. Abu Bakaar Kabba “was not a witch hunt.” She further went on to say that she hopes the rulings on the rest of the alleged persons will be concluded within the shortest possible time by FIFA.
On a final upbeat note, she urged Parliament and the Government to use the upcoming WAFU Zone ‘A’ Female Tournament in December to ”raise gender empowerment and profile of Sierra Leone.” She ended by saying “let’s put Sierra Leone on the map for the right reasons.”
