Education Ministry Warns School Authorities

Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School has warned School authorities to stop harassing students for scratch card or scratch card payment.

The Ministry warns that, school authorities who are in the habit of requesting for scratch card or payment for scratch card to cease, stating that a strong force of the law will be implemented for defaulters.

“The Ministry is therefore informing the general public that no payment should be made for scratch cards and no scratch card should be bought at the request of a school or Head of school or any individual associated with a school for purpose of checking and/ or confirming a result from a past WAEC conducted examination” they stated.

Citing that school principals/ Heads of schools that have collected payment for scratch cards are to return all monies or scratch cards being collected from WAEC candidate (students) with immediate effect.

It could be recalled that school authorities over the years have been harassing school pupils to bring scratch card in the name of verifying WAEC results. This over the years increased financial burden to school pupils and parents who find it very difficult to make ends meet. Some pupils even suffered the consequences of not writing their exams when they failed to present scratch cards.

The Ministry called on every students or parents/guardians to reports any school authority requesting for scratch cards or payment for scratch card.
