A Woman of Many Firsts!!

The Sierra Leone Police Media and Public Relations Unit announced the official appointment by the Police Council of Mrs. Elizabeth Augusta Turay, as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police. She ascended to the office after a vacancy existed early last month.

Before her current appointment, she was the Director of Operations, thus enviably making her the first and only woman so far to serve in that capacity.

Equally so, she is the first woman to ascend to the second top most position in the SLP.

She enlisted into the SLP in October 1988, and had, before now, worked and provided strategic leadership at other directorates such as Support Services and Community Affairs. She was the first Director of Gender, Protocol and Hospitality.

During the restructuring of the SLP, she was assigned to pilot the Community Policing scheme and later became the first woman in the Force to serve as Regional Commander.

Text Box:

Madam Turay is undoubtedly a woman of substance who has succeeded in every capacity she has worked in the SLP. Wishing her success in her new post.
